The New Town was developed after World War II around the original Stevenage, now called Stevenage Old Town. The Old Town still has a village feel with historic buildings, coaching inns and pubs. Learn more about the history of Stevenage by visiting Stevenage Museum situated near the centre of the new town.

Leisure and entertainment

Stevenage has good leisure/entertainment facilities. Why not visit Stevenage Leisure Centre which is just 0.3 miles from our hotel and has a swimming pool, gym, dance studio and much more. Or visit Stevenage Leisure Park, near to the train station, includes Cineworld cinema, ten-pin bowling alley, restaurants and pubs.

The superb Gordon Craig Theatre is situated in Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre, also near the station. At its entrance is the Boxfield Art Gallery. Both the town centre and Stevenage Old Town have many pubs and restaurants and are lively at weekends. There are also a number of nightclubs in Stevenage.

For sports, Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre has a multi-purpose sports hall, squash courts and a gym. There is a David Lloyd Leisure Club in Stevenage Leisure Park. Golf courses can be found in the surrounding countryside, including Stevenage Golf Centre on the outskirts of the town, near Aston. The local football club, Stevenage Borough FC is very well supported and provides a great day out for all sports enthusiasts.  

Walks and parkland

For walks, watersports, games and picnics enjoy the extensive Fairlands Valley Park running through the centre of town. As well as Stevenage Museum, another popular tourist attraction is Knebworth House and Gardens, accessed from the A1(M) junction on the edge of Stevenage.
